MICHAEL F. McCARDLE
Mike has over thirty years of successfully applying geology and geophysics to petroleum exploration and exploitation, with emphasis on integrating technology with complex geologic plays.
Upon leaving the Army as Captain of the United States Special Forces, Mike completed his under-graduate and graduate studies at Stanford University in Geophysics and Mineral Engineering.
He was the first geophysicist hired out of school by Tenneco Oil Company, and successfully discovered a Colmanite deposit in the Death Valley, California area.
Mike’s career continued with a major oil company and several independents, where he was directly responsible for the discovery of multiple oil and gas plays throughout South Texas, West Texas, South Louisiana, and Argentina.
Mike’s abilities are best exemplified by his experience as a geophysical consultant at GeoQuest. This position required his ability to map regionally, develop prospects, exploit developed fields, perform well post mortems, and act as an evaluator of high tech software for various companies.
He was co-author of British Petroleum’s Gulf Coast play book, which provided critical criteria and evaluation techniques applicable to the various onshore Gulf Coast plays being pursued by Sohio/BP.
He was one of a three man exploration team; which drilled five wells, resulting in four wells having discoveries of multiple pays for a client in West Texas.. One partner published the estimated reserves at 400,000,000 barrels of oil and approximately 1Tcfg.
Mike’s strong technical foundation in data analysis, seismic stratigraphy, AVO and attribute analysis, 1-D to 3-D modeling, and a willingness to think outside normal conceptual boundaries, has led to many successful oil and gas discoveries. As an example, he has drilled 24 of 26 successful wells as follows: Terrebone Parish Miocene (1 of 2), Lavaca County Wilcox (1 of 1), Hildalgo County Frio (17 of 17), and Vicksburg (5 of 6)
He is an active member in the following professional societies:
Society of Exploration Geophysicists
American Association of Petroleum Geologists
Geophysical Society of Houston
Houston Geological Society
Mike has developed a reputation in the industry for being honest and straightforward, e.g., several oil companies have utilized him in post mortem evaluation of wells, projects, etc. He is highly experienced at producing evaluations, maximizing use of time allotted.
